Dive HMNZS Canterbury and a reef in the Bay of Islands
After 34 years service theHMNZS Canterbury, a 113 metre Leander Class frigate, was scuttled in Deep Water Cove in the Bay of Islands. She was laid to rest on the 3rd of November 2007 and has become a fantastic dive, attracting divers from far and wide.
Now in a Marine Reserve, she has become a peaceful home for many aquatic species; Nudibranchs, Crayfish, John Dory etc
Your day will start around 7.30am where we can collect you from your local accommodation or you can meet us here at the dive centre, where you will be kitted out with your dive equipment and meet the crew and other divers.
After launching from Waitangi we'll cruise out to Deep Water Cove on our fully surveyed dive boat, soaking up the fantastic scenery and the history of the Bay of Islands as we go. Our instructors will take the opportunity to get to know you and your experience so we can tailor your day to its optimum assigning you a buddy or group and talking you through your options on the dive and familiarising you with the dive plan.
Your first dive will be the majestic HMNZS Canterbury - once briefed on the dive site we will descend down the line to the deck to explore this magnificent wreck.
After a freshly made hot drink from the galley and some cookies, we'll review the dive before finding a pretty spot to have lunch. Freshly made rolls with either chicken, ham, egg or cheese, home made cake, potato chips etc. After lunch and a chat we head to our next dive site. Your second dive will be a reef dive in the bay where you can dive Piercy Island, Cathedral Cove, The Dog, Pcig Gully - there are hundreds of dive sites to suit all dive enthusiasts.
After your dives we will cruise back to Waitangi and return back to base giving you an opportunity arrange a copy of your FREE photos of the day or just have a chat with the new friends you've just made.
